Abstract Summary

This project will develop and test simulation modules to train clinicians, nurses and operational leaders to counter racism and inequities in care for Indigenous patients in Alberta emergency departments. Modules will be based in results of an ongoing collaborative project between the Alberta First Nations Information Governance Centre, First Nations organizations, researchers at the University of Alberta and University of Calgary, and Alberta Health Services. Through this grant, our contribution will be to link new simulation modules to evidence generated in previous work, and to educational and anti-racist theory, through partnership with Indigenous organizations and community partners. We will also determine barriers and facilitators for spread and evaluation of equity-oriented simulation training around Alberta, and build toward future research opportunities. For this work, we are partnered with the AHS simulation education program. Importantly, the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) is represented in this project, ensuring that this work will address Métis experiences and care expectations.
