Abstract Summary

Traditional cardiovascular rehabilitation (CR) involving moderate-to-vigorous intensity continuous training (MICT) may not meet the needs or interests of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) given their low adherence rates. Alternative programs such as high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and Nordic Walking (NW) have been shown to produce superior improvements in physical health when compared to MICT in patients with CAD. Fewer studies have examined the impact of HIIT and NW on mental health. No studies have conducted a head-to-head comparison of HIIT, MICT and NW on the physical and mental health of patients with CAD; there is a need to determine what is best for these patients. Our "CRX" RCT examined the impact of HIIT, MICT and NW on the physical and mental health of patients with CAD participating in CR, and demonstrated a significant advantage for the NW approach. The goals of this dissemination plan are to share our findings using appropriate end-of-grant knowledge mobilization strategies including: presentations at a national conference; publications in reputable, open-access journals; a Dissemination Night; and, media-related activities.
