Women's Cardiovascular Health Research Priority Setting

$15,000
Abstract Summary

Cardiovascular (CV) disease is the leading cause of death in women globally. Despite a rapidly increasing understanding that sex and gender play important roles in CV disease manifestations and outcome, uptake of the recognition of sex and gender influences on the care of patients with CV disease has been slow or absent. Further compounding this inequity, research in the CV sciences, from biomedical to population health, has primarily been focused on the male model with findings being extrapolated to the care of other groups. Our goal is to identify the top ten research priorities in women's cardiovascular health. To inform and carry out these objectives in a meaningful fashion, we have put together a team that includes including people with lived experience and their caregivers, clinicians, researchers, decision-makers, funders and opinion leaders across the career spectrum with diverse experiences.
