Abstract Summary
Access to medicines is a major global health issue, with nearly two billion people lacking access to essential medicines. In recent years, the need for uninterrupted medicines availability and coverage has become more critical. Around 70% of the world's poor live in middle-income countries which are losing their eligibility to receive support from international funding agencies. Sustaining access to essential medicines while external funding is decreasing has become a major challenge for these nations. This program of work will investigate if and how governments make up for these shortfalls in access to medicines and vaccines. This will provide important global lessons for how countries can maintain population health while undergoing economic transition.
