Abstract Summary
People with dementia and their informal carers who live at home have experienced significant negative impacts of COVID-19 control measures (e.g. social restrictions, reallocation of resources) and the resulting circumstances (e.g. closure of support centers). These negative impacts include more rapid progression of cognitive and functional impairments, deterioration in mental health and wellbeing, loneliness, and increased care partner burden and stress. Our STRAP consortium will ascertain research priorities regarding the impact of the COVID-19 restrictions on people with dementia living at home and their informal carers. We will define a robust strategy to address these priorities. We will apply a regional focus on Europe and the Global South. This research agenda and strategy will advance research and policy to inform better care for people with dementia living at home and for their informal carers in these regions during the ongoing pandemic and in future pandemics or global crises.
