Abstract Summary
COVID-19 and its prevention policies have taken a toll on Canadians and people around the globe. Adherence to the multiple prevention policies has required people to make important sacrifices and adaptations, many of which have come at high personal and social costs and remain poorly understood. Moreover, evidence has shown that the pandemic has not affected all segments of the population equally, identifying important impact disparities in target groups (e.g., women, youth, the elderly, ethnic/racial minorities, and individuals with pre-existing chronic diseases). This project proposes to identify the medium-term (2 year) impacts of COVID-19 and its prevention policies (e.g.: those related to mental health, health behaviours, occupational impact, access to medical care) and to assess how these impacts vary according to key sociodemographic characteristics. Data from four representative Canadian samples will be analyzed (a total of 12,000 people) to assess multidimensional impact from January 2022 to December 2022. This project will provide information on the extent of the impacts of various pandemic policies as well as impact disparities in vulnerable populations (e.g., women, youth, older adults, visible minorities, individuals with pre-existing chronic diseases) to map out targeted strategies for designing interventions to strengthen resiliency and minimize the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada.
